What is MOOC? 

How can it help in education?

MOOC (a massive open online course) — an online course aimed at unlimited participation and open access via the Web. A MOOC is built for a world where the information is everywhere. Now, we are starting to see the MOOC product move into both the corporate and the private realm. 


There are a number of good options for educators looking to build their own MOOCs. Here are 5 the most interesting platforms:

  1. edX
  2. Moodle
  3. CourseSites
  4. Udemy
  5. Versal

  1. Udemy Free Courses — Udemy is an example of a site allows anyone to build or take online courses. 
  2. ITunesU Free Courses — Apple’s free app “gives students access to all the materials for courses in a single place. Right in the app, they can play video or audio lectures. Read books and view presentations.”
  3. UC Berkeley Free Courses — Berkley offers a variety of courses. 

 

Actually, there is another educational platform that I’d like to share with you. And that is Canvas.

Canvas Network offers open, online courses taught by educators everywhere. It provides a place and platform where teachers, students, and institutions worldwide can connect and chart their own course for personal growth, professional development, and academic inquiry.

Canvas offers the opportunity to acquire its services through trials and free versions, thanks to this platform one can use them at all times and expose his content through methods and activities on the web that will be very helpful, in order to speed up with these tests the learning of the work methodology and how to achieve profit for the company.

Pros:

  • provides the best tools to expose information;
  • constantly train the support staff;
  • each project is practical and dynamic.

Cons:

  • the program may be a bit basic, because the tutorials and guides for its users may be very limited;
  • it does not have the integration of more common programs in the use of administrative offices, although, the potential that this program has is very great.
