№5. Bookmarks

Let’s have a talk about bookmarks today

First things first, when referring to an Internet browser, a bookmark is a way of tagging a web resource for later use. To bookmark the page you are viewing you may either press “Ctrl+D” or click the bookmark icon (a star or a bookmark itself) to the right or the left of the address bar.

So, here are some bookmark services:

  1. Delicious
  • Delicious show popularly bookmarked pages on it’s home page. It helps you to organize your resources, action plans, company sharing and many more.
  • Before using Delicious you have to sing up.
  • Delicious offers a variety of tools to help you conveniently save bookmarks and review bookmarked pages (Firefox Add-On and bookmarklets, for instance).
  • Whenever you’re on another user’s profile, you can add him to your network. Unfortunately, the only way that other users will know is if you tell them, or if they notice you’re following them in their network listing.
  • Whenever you save a bookmark to Delicious, you have several options to fill in about the bookmark. Delicious will automatically pull in the URL and the title.
  • If you’re interested in particular topics, you can subscribe to those tags.

Some nice features of Diigo:

There is a personal space (“My Library”) where user’s information is stored.

Notes — you can write text notes and store them online which is quite comfortable.

Highlight an important date on the page.

Images — you can save individual images.

Lists (“My Lists”) — the ability to sort your data into specific folders.

The ability to access from Android, iPad, iPhone.

Compatible with both PC and Mac.

Displaying the information on your blog or social media (Twitter, Facebook).

Create your own circle of friends (“My Network”) and access their public bookmarks, records, photos.

The data in My Library can be made private so that only you can see it.

Taking snapshots and images.

Talking about my favourite bookmarks I have to say that I don’t use any of these services. All of my bookmarks are stored at the home-page of the Yandex browser. I’m absolutely fond of those because of their minimalistic, simple style and convenience in use. The biggest advantage is an intuitive interface.
